Free Rides to Health Care Appointments

If you need help getting to your Health First Colorado (Medicaid) appointments, you may qualify for free transportation. This service is called Non-Emergent Medical Transportation (NEMT) and is available for covered, non-emergency healthcare visits.

Where You Can Go

You may be able to get transportation to covered Health First Colorado services, including:

  • Doctor and specialist appointments
  • Behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorder) visits
  • Dialysis treatments
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation
  • Pharmacy trips
  • Hospital discharges
  • Other medically necessary covered services

How to Schedule a Ride

Book your ride at least 2 business days before your appointment. Have the following ready when you call:

  • Your name and Health First Colorado ID number
  • Date of birth
  • Appointment date and time
  • Pick-up address
  • Requested pick-up time
  • Provider’s name, address, and phone number

You can bring a family member or caregiver—just let the scheduler know.

Feeling sick or have COVID-19 symptoms? Call your provider first to see if an in-person visit is needed.

Statewide Broker Transition Timeline

Phase 1: Nine-County Denver Metro Area

Effective July 1, 2026

  • The statewide broker model will begin in the nine-county Denver metro area: Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer, and Weld Counties. 
  • Members in this region will start using MediDrive for NEMT services.

Phase 2: Statewide Implementation

Effective Fall 2026

  • The statewide broker model will expand to all remaining counties.
  • NEMT services across Colorado will be managed by MediDrive.

Feedback about an unsatisfactory NEMT experience

Contact Health First Colorado if:

  • A driver takes an unnecessary route
  • A driver offers money or incentives
  • A driver behaves inappropriately
  • You have concerns about your transportation service

Report concerns to Health First Colorado
